Located on the north side of Albuquerque, Desert Rose Trading is one of the city’s best kept secrets. If you are looking for that special gift for someone who has everything, or a treat for yourself, you will be delighted by the ever changing assortment of contemporary jewelry. From fun kid kits to mineral specimens to unique black agate rings, the prices make it challenging to pick just one. The friendly sales associates have backgrounds in jewelry creation and collecting, so they are knowledgeable if you find yourself curious about unfamiliar stones or craftsmanship.
The store owner, Jay King, has been a co-host for over 20 years of the popular HSN network show “Mine Finds by Jay King”. Needless to say, the company is here to stay. The doors are open once a quarter for a month at a time. Every March, June, September and December the floor is well stocked with the company’s distinctive creations. The designs sometimes feature turquoise, petrified wood and common opals, but when there is a new or interesting stone like Madagascar green opal, don’t be surprised to see it featured first in their line.
